Problem Statement:

The Healthcare Crisis in Cameroon

In Cameroon, access to healthcare is a pressing issue due to widespread poverty and a lack of adequate medical infrastructure. Patients often struggle to find affordable, reliable medical services, and the process of connecting with qualified doctors is cumbersome and time-consuming.

The challenge was to design a no non-sense, easy to use application that could:

  1. Facilitate Remote Consultations: Enable patients to connect with doctors online.
  2. Simplify Access to Healthcare: Provide an intuitive platform accessible to users with varying levels of technical expertise.
  3. Ensure Affordability: Cater to the socio-economic conditions of users in Cameroon.
Design process: idea, research, wireframes, UI design, testing and prototyping

Research:

Leveraging Online Research and Industry Benchmarks:

Given the remote nature of this project, I relied on online research and competitive analysis to understand the healthcare landscape in Cameroon and to gather insights for designing eCareDocta.

Methods:

Investigated healthcare challenges in Cameroon, including barriers to access, common user demographics, and internet usage patterns.

Key Findings:

Barriers to Access: High poverty rates and inconsistent internet connectivity required the app to be lightweight and optimized for low-bandwidth usage.

  1. User Experience Expectations: Patients needed a straightforward flow for booking appointments, while doctors valued features that highlighted their credentials.
  2. Localization Requirements: Bilingual support (French and English) was essential to cater to the diverse population of Cameroon.
  3. Trust as a Priority: Users often mistrust online services; verified doctor profiles and transparent pricing were critical to building credibility.

Competitive Analysis Highlights:

Simplified navigation and intuitive onboarding flows were key strengths in most successful telemedicine apps.

Apps that prominently displayed doctor ratings and reviews helped users feel more confident in their choices.

Features like audio-only consultations and offline appointment tracking were particularly useful in areas with unreliable internet connectivity.

One Platform with endless potential

With carefully selected consultants with a lot of domain expertise in their fields, we empower our patients by including them in the decision-making about their health conditions, putting down all available therapeutic options and disease prognosis, and letting them decide which is best for them.

UI Design:

The UI design of eCareDocta is divided into two distinct but cohesive experiences tailored for its two primary user groups: Patients and Doctors.

Patient-Focused UI:

The patient interface prioritizes simplicity, accessibility, and trust. It guides users through essential tasks like booking appointments and consulting doctors, even for those with limited digital literacy.

Doctor-Focused UI:

The doctor interface emphasizes efficiency and productivity, enabling seamless management of consultations, schedules, and patient interactions.
